The Dorothy and Bryant Edwards Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis
Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children currently offers four one-year fellowships in pediatric orthopaedics and scoliosis each year, which begins on August 1. We do not participate in the Combined Musculoskeletal Specialty Match sponsored by the National Resident Matching Program, but independently conduct interviews of candidates for the August 2009-2010 positions. This program is ACGME accredited.
The hospital currently is staffed by seven full-time pediatric orthopaedists, two hand surgeons, two pediatricians, three neurologists and many part-time medical staff members. This fellowship program helps the fellow achieve full competency and mastery of skills for the management of all childrens orthopaedic and scoliosis problems. In this busy pediatric orthopaedic referral center, the fellow is a "front line" member of the patient care team. By active participation, the fellow will gain surgical competence in the management of complex spine, hip and extremity problems. In addition, fellows do one-month rotations in acute pediatric orthopaedic care at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, Texas’ only Level I pediatric trauma center. This center is staffed by four full-time pediatric orthopaedists.
This fellowship program requires completion of a residency in general orthopaedics and certification through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (if applicable).
